SERVICES
Educational Services
New Directions is a Licensed Private Academic School through the PA Department of Education. We provide both regular and special education services and provide a co-located complimentary separate program. The Private Academic School contracts with each child/adolescent’s home School District. We specialize in treating children and adolescents from the ages of 5 to 21 years. Adolescents over the age of 17 may be provided service if the adolescent is enrolled in high school/secondary/vocational school and/or is in the custody of Children and Youth Services. The New Directions Program has three grouping/ functional tracks: K-4 grade, 5th-8th grade and 9th-12th grade. Although located in Fayette County, New Directions serves children/adolescents from Fayette and surrounding counties (Allegheny, Westmoreland, Washington, Greene, and Somerset) or children from other counties temporarily placed by Children and Youth Services in Fayette or surrounding counties.
Therapeutic Services
New Directions Child and Adolescent Partial Hospitalization Program provides service six hours a day for five days a week. Each child/adolescent participates for at least three hours per scheduled treatment day. The intensive program includes therapeutic milieu, nursing, psychiatric evaluation, psychiatric medication management, medication administration, individual/group/family therapy, psychoeducation, guided social interactions, health instruction, basic living skills instruction, behavioral management instruction and practice, crisis management, mental health wellness, therapeutic skill development, and referrals are provided in accordance with the child/adolescent’s treatment plan.
New Directions provides a variety of therapy and therapeutic interventions including but not limited to process psychotherapy groups as well as group services that routinely include guided social interaction groups; illness education groups, coping skills groups, problem solving groups, and expressive therapies such as therapeutic groups, cooperative and focus development through recreational and wellness groups; and social interaction skill development groups. Based on clinical need New Directions also provides a variety of specialized groups related to trauma, diagnosis, and topic specific. Individual and family therapy sessions are regularly scheduled as well as additional sessions when indicated.
