SERVICES
Educational Services
New Directions is a Licensed Private Academic School accredited by the PA Department of Education. We offer both regular and special education services, along with a co-located, complementary separate program. Our school contracts with each child or adolescent’s home School District to provide tailored educational services.
We specialize in working with children and adolescents aged 5 to 21. Adolescents over 17 may also receive services if they are enrolled in high school, secondary, or vocational school, or if they are in the custody of Children and Youth Services.
The New Directions Program is structured into three functional tracks: K-4th grade, 5th-8th grade, and 9th-12th grade. Although we are based in Fayette County, we serve children and adolescents from Fayette and surrounding counties, including Allegheny, Westmoreland, Washington, Greene, and Somerset. We also accommodate children from other counties who are temporarily placed by Children and Youth Services in our region.
Therapeutic Services
New Directions Child and Adolescent Partial Hospitalization Program offers six hours of service per day, five days a week. Each child or adolescent participates for at least three hours per scheduled treatment day. This intensive program includes a therapeutic milieu, nursing care, psychiatric evaluations, psychiatric medication management, medication administration, and various therapeutic sessions (individual, group, and family).
The program also provides psychoeducation, guided social interactions, health instruction, basic living skills instruction, behavioral management instruction and practice, crisis management, mental health wellness activities, therapeutic skill development, and referrals. All these services are tailored to meet the specific treatment plan of each child or adolescent.
New Directions offers a wide range of therapeutic interventions, including but not limited to process psychotherapy groups. Our group services routinely encompass guided social interaction groups, illness education groups, coping skills groups, problem-solving groups, and expressive therapies. These include therapeutic groups, cooperative and focus development through recreational and wellness groups, and social interaction skill development groups.
Based on clinical needs, New Directions also provides specialized groups focused on trauma, specific diagnoses, and other relevant topics. Individual and family therapy sessions are regularly scheduled, with additional sessions provided as needed.
