NEW DIRECTIONS
Frequently asked questionsHow can I schedule a tour of New Directions?
- Please call The Children’s Center at 724-434-5437(KIDS) to schedule a tour.
What are the group therapies my child will receive daily?
- New Directions provides 4 group therapy sessions per day. Specialized Group, Psychotherapy/Psychoeducational groups, Expressive Therapy and Guidance Group.
How often does my child receive an individual session by their primary therapist?
- Individual therapy sessions are provided at least twice a month and can be scheduled more frequently depending on the needs of the child.
How often does my child see the doctor at New Directions?
- Meetings with the doctor are scheduled at least once a month with your child, primary therapist, and a parent/guardian. More frequent meetings can be requested or scheduled on an as needed basis.
We have an established psychiatrist who is currently treating our child, can we continue treatment with the Doctor, or do we need to stop services once admitted to New Directions?
- While at the New Directions Program, your child’s care will be managed by our medical director, who is a board-certified child and adolescent psychiatrist. While enrolled at New Directions, the psychiatrist will be overseeing the medical treatment of your child. Upon discharge, we will coordinate with your chosen specialist to ensure a seamless transition back to services under their care.
- The same applies to outpatient therapy; children enrolled in New Directions cannot continue to see their outpatient therapist. Trauma therapy and Family-based mental health services are the only exceptions.
When and how can I communicate with my child’s primary therapist?
- Your child’s primary therapist can be reached between the hours of 7:30am – 3:30pm. Please note that the primary therapist will return calls by the end of the day.
- You can communicate with your primary therapist during both family/Doctor meetings.
- You can communicate with daily journals (to go home with child and return with child the next morning).
Who is responsible for my child’s transportation to and from New Directions?
- During the academic school year, your child’s home school district is responsible for transportation.
- During summer months, there are three options:
- Your child’s home school district is providing transportation (if district agrees to provide)
- FACT Transportation is providing transportation for your child
